Weekend Treadings of the cultural nature - some bites, some artistic expressions, some sounds, and whatever you decide to add to the mix.

This time around our weekend post will focus heavily on the *Three Rivers Art Festival (it is the ending weekend after all) featuring the happenings we are most excited for or deserve and overall shout-out!! 

THURSDAY, JUNE 7th

Hard Hats and High Heels Fashion Show

presented by Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh and The Art Institute of Pittsburgh

Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall

Stylish designs created by AI students with materials from Habitat’s ReStore retail outlet for a recycled material fashion show.  The lucky designers will be judged by local fashion guru’s, special guests include WTAE’s Wendy Bell and Kiss FM’s Tall Cathy.  Festivities also include a silent auction, photo booth, DJ & live music, CASH BAR, & LIVE PAINTER. 

6:30pm VIP Cocktail Hour // $50 (21 & over)

7:30pm Fashion Show // $10 students, $20 gen admission

All proceeds donated to Habitat’s Veterans Housing Initiative program!!

FRIDAY, JUNE 8th 

Ryan George’s “Wilde Amphigories with Reggie Fox”

The Big Idea Book Store

In anticipation of Ryan George’s new play planned to open in Pittsburgh, 2013 the author will be reading and performing from his eccentric collection “Wilde Amphigories with Reggie Fox”.  Expect a mixture of literary styles and bold declarations used to caricature mainstream culture.

Giant Eagle Creativity Zone at Point State Park near the Fort Pitt Museum

Music from the Andean mountain regions of Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador.  If you are looking for something unique this performance will give you the chance to experience wind, percussion and string instruments.  It’s sure to be a colorful 45 minutes!

GRAMMY Award winner, 5-decade established bluegrass headman with more to share.  At one time he jammed with Jerry Garcia in Old & In the Way so undoubtedly he has the groove to give!

Sunday Brunch Buffet

The Shiloh Grill, Mt. Washington

Enjoy a brunch buffet while nursing your hangover and enjoying the wonderful spirit of Mt. Washington and its very own Shiloh Grill (supposedly haunted so clean your beer goggles for optimum ghost hunting).

Trust Arts Education Center

Stop by for your last chance to see the work of those talented enough (and from our greater Pittsburgh region) to be selected to show in this annual exhibition.  61 works from 46 artists and many wonderful judges including CMoA’s Linda Benedict-Jones and MF’s Michael Olijnyk as well at Pittsburgh Cultural Trust’s Murray Horne.
