Friday’s Gallery Crawl in Downtown was both exciting and intellectually stimulating. I have to applaud the Cultural Trust in their ability to draw a diverse crowd. From business suits to the trendy, the streets of downtown were littered with good looking people of all ages.
Currency at 937 Liberty was beautifully curated. Jonathan Chamberlain, the curator and a showing artist co-produced the show with artist, Brian Brown. Currency is a group exhibition questioning the use of space and artistic narratives. Jonathan’s corner is a satirical approach to the very real feelings of heartbreak. Artistic euphemisms bounced from one piece to the next playfully highlighting what a spectacle love can be. The show was a great example the ever so present DIY (Do It Yourself) movement of Pittsburgh. With the help of Pittsburgh’s Cultural Trust, Jonathan and Brian manage to take an under utilized space and turn it into a sophisticated gallery.
