More photos from the exhibition Possible at UnSmoke Systems Artspace, May 3rd - 13th!

Developed by Staci Offutt and Natalie Grandinetti, 10 artists were exhibited in Possible. The artists inventively stretched the boundaries of their choice materials so viewers would experience unconventional resources used as artful ingredients.

This concept has certainly been used before, almost to an exhausting point, but to experience the show firsthand was to understand the thoughtfulness of the curators and the cleverness of the artists.

We started our Saturday tour de Braddock exploring Possible and it roped us in to carefully investigate each work before we were ready or willing to continue on our way. UnSmoke Systems has a great space and interesting elements that make their program stand-out; but, perhaps the most alluring part is they produce and back exhibitions worthy of your time!

While it may have been stormy the day we toured Braddock the sense of community was vibrantly present from across the city walls to the vast community garden.

Braddock Farms, as produced by Grow Pittsburgh, is a phenomenal example of how empty city lots can be re-purposed for the good of a community - re-imagine the use of land, create access to fresh produce, teach useful skills, and beautify existing space. This really is a sight to behold in person as the areas last working steel mill is right in the background.

The Free Store is another example of space innovatively used and sits just beside the farm. Surplus and donated goods are received and then available for the community - you just have to follow the rules!

As for the murals - check back tomorrow to see other examples of Braddock’s hidden urban treasures and to read about our adventure with Dave Zak of UnSmoke Systems Artspace
